Heater Hose Hookup Question

Question, does it matter which of the 2 hose (one out of the block the other from the water pump) go into the fire well ports. Are the inter-changeable?

I think in some cases they were slightly different size hoses. If yours aren't then I don't think it matters....If they are whichever connection has the largest diameter use for the larger hose. Just don't cross them so they lay pretty.

I am sure someone can give you more details than my vague desciption.

The service manual shows a return and out on the water pump housing and then crossing the hoses to the heater core. I'm not sure if it matters that much - I laid the hoses side by side because I think it looks better.

i dont think there is a "flow direction". all a heater core is, is a small radiator. back flush it while the hoses are off. clean the crap outta there!

If you want your heater to work properly - go by the manual. Function before form boys...dont' be like the Chevy crowd.

actually it does matter for flow direction. with proper flow direction it will help with the removing of air in the core.

I remember way back when I had my 65 Belvedere, that I had the hoses reversed and the heater control valve wouldn't work properly.

dam..i didnt know that either. my heater works but it dont blow heat like i think it should. im gonna look mine over according to that drawing. i learn stuff here everyday !

I know on 70's the heater core and the water pump have different sized fittings for the hoses which means the right diameter hoses only go one way which is like the diagram pictured.

holy crapola! i didnt think it mattered either!!!

so i consult my Plymouth manual, and in 68, they are NOT crossed...whew!! i put them side by side so they look good.

and by no means am i a chebby guy...i dont have an ounce of chrome under MY hood!!! :icon_geek:
