Does the whole heater assembly have to come out on my 72 Coronet. I've got to change the heater motor. Just that it looks like the back of it sticks through firewall with nuts holding it . Can it come out through the engine compartment.

with or without AC?

If it is an AC car, and like my 74 Charger, you should be able to remove it from the engine bay side. Unplug the wires, remove the rubber vent hose, and remover the 3 nuts. Then pull the motor and squirrel cage out towards the engine bay.

I am not sure about a non-AC car though.

It's a factory a/c car. I'm going to dive into the heater system when I get car back. When I got it there was a broken bolt in the transmission tailshaft housing. Instead of me laying down on the garage floor. My buddy has a lift He can put it on his lift and we can fix it. Someone put a heater on off switch at bottom of dash. Thing is wired into the heater someplace with a harness. I have to figure out that mess to. Also fix the heater control switch. I love these old cars.
