Dumb *** attacked today. Cleaning out my header bolt holes on a cast 440 head and didn't look in the hole first. Someone had installed a helicoil to fix a stripped hole sometime in the past. Well when I ran my thread chaser in the hole I pushed the helicoil into the water jacket. It fell in and I can even see it. Any ideas on getting it out or just leave it alone?

Thanks

Or leave it. It won't be able to go very far anyway...

Well those were the two options I came up with too. Might try the magnet but nut sure it will be strong enough. Really want to avoid any more disassembly if at all possible.

it's probably made of SS so forget the magnet.

I started using Timeserts instead of helicoils. They are a solid insert with a stop. I have had similar issues with helicoils coming out.

Just install a new Heli-Coil. They are stainless. Pull the core plug out of the head and you should be able to access it. As long as it can't make it to the water pump it won't hurt anything anyway.

I like to use Permatex#2 non hardening sealant. Just my 2 cents worth.
