i was wondering if anybody knew rather or not you can adjust your power steering box while there is no fluid in it. pulled motor and finding slop in box. can i try to adjust it while it is dry. thanks guys. appreciate the help. oh i was also wondering if i go clockwise with the adjusting bolt or counter clockwise.

What are you working on??? Heres a pic of 71-74, check all componites, like coupling. I would suggest you have fluid in it and weight, such as motor and trans.

You will have slop in the box with the engine not running because of the control valve action. When dealing with used equipment be very careful when adjusting the screw on top of the box! Getting the play out in the straight direction will usually cause the box to bind on turns.

I believe Mopar Action just did a huge 2 or 3 part series on steering boxes. They covered pretty much everything. Look for it online.
