I have have exhausted my search for proper restoration of my grille, bezels and tail panel. I have stumbled on to a couple threads that lead me to believe the aluminum needs to be anodized or bright dipped ??? I have removed some dents and sanded some scratches out of the leading edges, but I have not touched the centers of bezels
(original finish). What are the consequences of just polishing the sanded areas? Trying to do everything in house. Any tips are greatly appreciated!
Here is a pic of original grille and bezels. Quite nice actually. Just want it as nice as possible.
I will also be stripping paint and repainting. My thoughts thus far are finish polishing, mask and media blast painted ares. Remask and paint?

You will need to strip of the "factory bright dipping" for a uniform look as just trying to polish the "sanded area's" will make it look blotchy. No need to strip the black paint off as that is a really good base, so just sand it with 320 and re-shoot the black.

When I do grilles, I completely strip off the bright dipping and paint then start from scratch. Yes, it is a lot of work, but worth it in the end.

grill repair

I took mine to a plating shop, they will electro clean, and then repair small dings, then polish-polish-polish. they guy has estimated about 50 hours to complete the polishing. he will then plate it with some type of electroless nickel that would act as a sealer like anodizing. he said they do not have good success chrome plating over aluminum, it always comes off in a year or so. I will have to shade in the painted portions.
quoted price $1450.
as always just let your billfold be your guide.
my rectangles on the grill are not fully painted as your looks like, they are shaded in the recesses only.
thanks

Thanks guys. I am trying my best to do a high level restoration, but the cost of some of these items refinished is hard to swallow!
I can do a lot of the work very well myself (body, paint, mechanical, wiring etc.) So I am attempting to do everything in my own shop.
I sometimes question my limits which warrants a cry for help now and then...
