Hello
I'm new to the board and have a story to tell.(Member of A-bodys also). I went to wisconsin today and purchased a rust free 1967 coronet 500 which still has the original paint/vinyl top/interior and motor with 126000 miles.Cars in very good condition for its age. ultimately the car needs resto but i hesitate to do that because the car has its certi-card which indicates it belonged to a fellow named John Vukovich-the research shows this was phillys coach and long time baseball player that purchased the car in 1967 after receiving a sign on bonus and has passed away 3 years ago.
Question?
Do i leave the car the way it is and just refresh the motor or do a complete restore paint and all.
All suggestions are welcome
Thanks
Mark

Welcome to FBBO Mark! Good to see you here from FABO. This is a tough question you pose. Can you post some detailed pics of the 500 for us to see?

Historical?

Looks like a nice car,I would enjoy the as you see fit,My 2cents you will not hurt the value no matter what you do,you can only make it Better!

I would just freshen it up no major redos! It looks like a survivor to me.

Nice lookin' survivor!! Freshen that motor up, and drive the wheels off it!!!

welcome

If the car looks like it does in those pics (at least the exterior) then I'd only do what was necessary to keep it in top mechanical condition

The pictures look better than the car close uo. Several areas wearing thin to primer several small car door dings over the past 40+ years. That adds to the patina of the vehicle. The interior is immaculate with a singke crack in the dash pad-easy enought to fix.

The thing about an original car (like Galen says) is they're only original ONCE. Unless the paint was really getting bad, I'd be tempted to leave it be.

How close are you to the WI border? I was just curious because I may be near you. I love the car, freshen up the engine only and what ever is a major problem.

I am out by Joliet/Lemont. Passed thru Gurnee on my way back. I am going to drive the car the way it is thru the summer and pull the motor in August to rebuild.
I am going to sent the trans to Brewers for a once over and reseal.
