Okay, did a search for this and can't find anything previous, so here's the situation: To turn on my high-beams, I have to stop the car, open the door, kneel on the pavement and smash the pedal with my fist 4-5 times. To shut them off, I do the same thing but hit it even harder.

Needless to say, I just don't use the brights at all.

What's the best fix here? Shooting WD-40 up between the stem and cap? Disassembly and greasing? Or just go for a replacement?

TIA for any advice.

Back in the day that was a common probem, just replace it. They can get corroded inside and stick. You can try to lube it but it may only be a short term fix.

The switch is failing. Replace it. There is a repo available or you can check the parts stores, or if you find yourself at pick n pull go look in the 80's Dodge vans. The 60's and 70's Ford cars and trucks use the same switch.

You should be able to buy this switch at any decent parts store. NAPA had the proper one in stock for my 67 dart. They are not very expensive, and fit "a thousand years"
