Hood hinge removal

I want to paint my hinges and the areas behind them on the fender. Can I remove the hinges from the hood and from the fender safely without removing the spring?

Yes. It's good to have someone to help when removing the hood.
I take a razor and trace the outline of the bolts/washers so I can get it located when it's put back on.
Place some moving blankets below the hood up by the cowl in case the hood slips down towards the window when it's loosened.

With hood off, it is a good time to take care of the over spray on it.
