440 manifolds red n five miles. not timing not vac leaks cooling system mew and good. detonation???

How do you know its not timing?

It's either very lean or the timing is off, one of the two.

Hi airplane. Need a little more info. For example, just about anybody on here would have red manifolds in five miles if they drove flat out uphill for that distance. When you say 'not timing', what is the total timing and at what rpm for your situation? How do the plugs look? Does the engine seem unusually powerful or sluggish?

As before, RETARDED ignition timing. Turn distributor CLOCKWISE to advance and get rid of the problem.

It may be a different timing problem. For example, it could be frozen up so the advance weights don't move but still have good initial timing.
