So, I often click on an interesting click bait online short videos. I get that ultimately money is the goal of the creator.
Ads certainly enhance that task.
However, why can't it be disclosed on the opening screen how many ads and total time a viewer is going to be subjected to ads in the video, and we get to decide for ourselves if it is worth our time?
Face it, the viewer is going to find out eventually anyway, this mandated pre disclosure requirement would reduce the the viewer's feelings they watched an ad, that had some interesting content tossed in.
The fact that content creators and other non-viewers would likely hotly contest the requirement, pretty much justifies the disclosure requirements worth.
I don't like being tricked.
The cost/effort to incorporate/disclose the number and length of inserted ads would be minimal and a onetime expenditure.
Not a big favor of more requirements/regulations, but this one would give me back some control of what I decide to view and best spend my time.
At some point if this trend continues, I'll just stop watching videos altogether. Right now, I just boycott the owners of the most obnoxious repeated ads, slick or not.
What say you?
