Got home from work on Wednesday and "thought" that all was not too bad for Hurricane Michael blowing through our area . . . actually, by 5:00 PM the storm was already past our area, there were blue skies above, and the sun was shining . . .

Then got home and found out that the power was out at the house - so out comes the generator, get it running, hooked up, and get the house on generator power . . . the power was restored to my area right around 9:00 PM . . . not too bad . . .

Decided to take the puppy dog for a walk and that when I discovered this . . . my neighbor across the street has a downed Oak Tree . . .

Now, this picture is a bit deceiving, and you can't tell the true size of this tree . . .

So today while I was helping him clean up and haul the tree - put my tractor next to it . . .
Now you can appreciate the actual size of this tree . . .

See the two toned cut off branch in the above picture, which is about 50-60 feet up the tree, here's the size of that branch . . .

While helping him with the clean up - I saw that had another tree fall by his barn . . .
And I thought RUH ROH . . . this cannot be good . . .

But - unbelievable - he must have been on his best behavior, because you could NOT have ever dropped this tree as precisely as it fell with the winds . . .

Whether is was clean living, or pure good luck . . . this one worked out for him ! ! !

And the cause of the power outage at my house . . . another downed tree about 2 miles from my house . . .

Glad you made it through with out damage... That Oak tree would be great to have milled as the width could be 18-24 inches wide and would make great flooring even if just for a barn...

Hurricane Michael wrecked havoc in Greensboro yesterday. We only lost power for a short amount of time, but a good portion of the Northwest section where I live is still without power. Trees are down and roads are closed all around us. That was some of the heaviest rain that I have ever witnessed. Hurricane Florence was a spring shower compared to Michael. Sad part is, a lot of people in the Carolinas have not recovered from Florence yet, and now this.

Glad you're ok, and still have a house...seeing some of the damage on TV is heartbreaking

That tree is a monster Larry. Luckily nobody was hurt or killed.

No kidding . . . the neighbor happened to be looking out the window when the first tree above "snapped" and said it was on the ground in about 4 seconds . . .

Guess who is stocking up on a whole lot of free firewood ( free - right - going to work my *** off to get this cut and quartered - then let it season for a year . . . )

Glad to hear the damage was minimal. Could of been a lot worse, like it was for Fl and Ga.

I lived through Issabelle and when it hit our area and that was a Cat 1.....I was on the porch hearing trees that size snapping like toothpicks......We were out of power for 2 weeks.....I will never forget those cold showers....Grocery stores empty, I will never eat a can of ravioli again.....No gas anywhere....Even get Ice was near impossible.....

The day after the storm. I had to go to the hospital because of the priority of my position......The damage was unbelievable.......Trees everywhere, across the roads and cut just enough to allow one vehicle to pass through....Homes damaged etc....

I cannot imagine anything higher than a Cat 1.....

Have you seen the the devastation down in Florida? WOW!

I'll take the several hundred trees that were knocked down in our area and the power outages that we have ( and still are ) experiencing here . . . as I said, we got pretty luck ( again ) here in the Charlotte area and the pictures that I saw in Florida are unbelievable . . . the devastation is beyond words . . . My thoughts and prayers go out to the people of Florida as they attempt to get their lives put back together . . .

God bless all the people in the path of the storm that have been affected by the "wrath" of Michael . . .

I believe that most of the Power trucks in the Charlotte area have all been dispersed down to the Florida area to assist them with the rebuilding process . . . my thoughts and prayers are with those people and their safety as they work to repair that mess down there . . .

I was referring to going through anything higher than a cat 1........There is no way I would hang out......

It was my own personal experience and I was just relaying what a low grade storrn does......Yeap, I have seen the devastation and I pray for those folks out there.....I do own a TV, Mark....

I lived through Hurricane Andrew in NJ in 1992. It hit as a Cat 5 and totally destroyed the area of NJ that I lived in. My father's friend owned a large tree service ironically called Andrews Tree Service. I worked with them around the clock for 3 weeks to clean up the devastation the hurricane brought. I know first hand how the people of Florida are feeling, and it is indescribable. Watching front-end loaders push overturned cars out of the street so that we could pass was surreal. I remember standing on a person's couch as I cut a large Sycamore tree out of someone's living room.
While Hurricane Michael brought more rain than I have ever experienced, fortunately it didn't bring the same devastation to Greensboro that Andrew brought to NJ.
My prayers go out to the people of the panhandle.

Hurricane Andrew was a tiny, but powerful storm and hit Homestead Fl. My friend lives in Key Largo about 30 miles or so south of Homestead and he got almost nothing from the storm. I left Bimini in the Bahamas, on a 23 ft. boat about 36 hours before the storm hit south Florida. Maybe you got a tornado from the remnants of the hurricane and I'm not disputing your damage, but Andrew didn't make it that far.

They called it Hurricane Andrew. It hit NJ in August of 1992, and I lived and worked through the devastation. I have pictures in a box somewhere, I have to look for them.

I have no reason to dispute your damage and respect what you have seen. I have been fascinated with hurricanes for a long time. Probably had something to do with my great aunt's account of living through having her house blown down in the 1935 hurricane that struck the Keys.
Before retiring, I have been to the aftermath of many hurricanes from Key West to Pensacola within hours of the end of the winds and yeah, it is a mess. Nails and power lines and other debris. I had five guys drive their cars with me to Pensacola, which was about five hundred miles from where we started. We pulled off the roadway to contact the local dispatch and a car went by at about 40 mph. The driver apparently didn't see the traffic signal hanging about 4 feet above the road and he took it with him about 200 feet after snapping the electrical lines. I went over to the car and the driver had a dazed look on his face. The traffic signal was sitting in the passenger seat. Luckily there was no passenger other than the light.
