Claimed dealer installed hemi in an original 383 car.
Interesting they did not swap out the 8 3/4" with a dana 60. Ad & paperwork do not giveaway if its a sure grip or not.
Also was there just one 4 speed or like the 727 a beefed up one for the hemi cars? Because it appears that they didn't do anything to the tranny either...
Paperwork states no unibody reforcements also (Especially interesting since this is a convertible).
Almost like swap out the motor and go. :D

But car looks nice and is interesting for sure.

The automatic cars got the 8 3/4" axle, standard.

That dealer label is full of misspelled words too!

So you mean the automatic hemi cars had the 8 3/4" instead of a dana 60? Good to know.
Would be interesting to know if this one has sure grip since it was an original 383 4 speed car. I THINK the paperwork of my charger states sure grip and this cars does not. So probably open diff?

I've seen this car in person (few years ago) it was gorgeous. It's only 1hr away from me if anyone needs it looked at or driven

They probably repainted it when restoring?
Because for me it looks pretty shiny/mirror like for a 70s paint job in these pictures ^^

This one looks more like a 70s factory paint job to me: https://www.hemmings.com/classifieds/dealer/dodge/challenger/2082433.html (Despite they say "Restored to original condition")

I personally like these old single stage acrylic enamel paint jobs over the high $$$ modern mirror like multi stage ones. :)

The "Dealers Label" is complete BS... It wasn't created in the original selling dealership... The "Public Law" 85-806 was looked up in a previous post about the car & it has nothing to do with motor vehicles, I don't recall what it does pertain to but it's a completely fabricated document.... Nice car but don't put any faith/value in the story....

The ad title states 1971 Challenger R/T convertible. All Challenger convertibles in 71 were non-R/T (JH27 shown on the window sticker). The window sticker also shows it did not come with R/T side stripes. I also agree that the dealer installed Hemi is BS..

The car I saw a few years back deff was not org paint .
But I remember the story about being very special
Is it? Who knows they did some interesting things back then ! I guess If someone really wanted that car and they were not building that body style anymore 1972 were out . And it was just old stock they told the guy yeah we can put one together ! I'd buy that . But it isn't priced in hemi car territory ! A car like that with documents is bringing 6 figures isn't it?

Other silly wording on the custom dealer document is “R/T exaust tips and valance”. The split tips and notched valance is not just an R/T exhaust. A dealer is going to apply undercoating to the car, really?? Filptop cap..

And my favorite, WILD TUBES, to go with a wild story! ****, I had wild tube headers on my Super Bee that were so wild they wouldn’t clear my Borgeson gearbox!

This car came with a 3 speed manual transmission.

Being CA car, it most likely would have turn down exhaust tips instead of the chrome tips & the standard fuel cap was a painted cap, so
What's this "body side lacquer paint stripe" & "V7W paint stripe code?

Bottom line is that the car is what it is & considering it's a clone with a Hemi under the hood, the price doesn't seem too outrageous today.

I agree.. My earlier point being I hate the BS stories that get attached to these cars...

I also agree, total BS story. Total BS paper work. as far as I know there were no high performance convertible challenger s built in 71. Why cant people just tell the truth, custom built hemi rag top built with all good parts. simple. Buy it if you have the cash, it will be a fun ride

Could have been for a dealer staff member on a damaged vehicle. Chevrolet had cars modified by Motion and they are highly desirable.

Yes, as stated earlier in this thread, this car has come up before, and that "Public Act" was discussed. (I didn't remember it either.) I Googled the Public Act. It was enacted in 1958, and it was a transfer of power from one Federal Housing agency to another agency within the government. Sooooo...

...is the story and paperwork BS? Regardless, this seems like a great price for an awesome looking and equipped clone.

Nice car. The 383 was standard with the 3-speed manual trans. The 4-speed and the 727TF were both optional. Agree x100 on the bogus "dealer label" nonsense.

Why do people have to embellish and outright lie about selling a damned car or truck? Present it as it is, and let the car do the talking.

Just a Hemi Challenger clone as far as I am concerned. Even if the dealer installed the engine (that's a stretch) it still isn't a original Hemi Challenger. The add on price sheet contains the factory options and the order price. I doubt if the parts department would charge exactly what the manufactured option cost. Shaker package $114.20 and no paint and materials? Naw $500 even for labor? Made up. I call BS Wild Tube headers? Never heard of them.

Correct. It's not a Hemi Challenger, either.

And the Sure Grip was an option no matter what the package of the car was. I parted cars in the 70's and most were Mopars and several were 383 RT's.....and none of them had Sure Grips but found one in a 68 or 9 New Yorker! Go figure.
