I was about to restore the original fan for my car, when I noticed part numbers stamped on it (as shown in the picture). If I were to clean up the fan and paint it, I would lose those numbers. So, what should I do?

stencile them back on or tape off that small area and paint the rest IMO

The fan in question has the number stenciled on. Others were stamped into the metal.

First, make sure that fan was an option for your car from the factory. No need going to all the trouble if it was not. Then, decide if you want an all original car. If so, do as Blade said. Mine was so far gone I stripped it and repainted it. I didn't replace the number since I don't care about all the numbers matching.

if you are doing a concorse resto, restencil them.if not, just paint the fan.its not anything anyone is ever gonna look for unless the car is being judged at some super show.

Agreed, to me, having it look nice, overshadows any super judging aspect!

Interesting. You've got to wonder how anybody can distinguish whether an original car is really original or just had a very savvy guy 'fixing' it up. Factory stamps....there's a market I didn't know existed. Leave it to American ingenuity...

Is the correct color for the fan gloss black or semi gloss back?
