Hello all .I'm in a bit of a bind ,some of you know that I have a 74 s.e. sunroof charger stuffed away in a shed out back of my house . I bought the car 3 years ago or so. Well it came from a no title state and there isn't any supporting documents with it the guy passed away and the kids sold it it changed hands 3-4 times made it to FL. And I got it last with nothing but a nice car and all of its parts minus wheels and a few other small things. Well if you all know me and this cars story you know it belongs to my wife it's "her car" she says . And I decided I want to surprise her and get it done I have 99% of the parts I need to finish it but no title and I don't want to touch it until I have that stupid piece of paper in my hand . Just to be safe.I have a few options I guess I need some to ether register it in there no title state then give me everything with a bill of sale or maybe just a bill of sale from a no title state will work. I don't trust the guys on the internet that say give us your money and all you vin info and wait 8 weeks sounds shady to me a. Few guys say the cars magical come up stolen and believe it or not the guy doing the title stuff is magical the owner and wait he now knows where his stole car is .. I don't trust these guys can anyone give me some input or help I'm willing to pay for who evers efforts if needed .I just really want to get the title asap so I can surprise her for Christmas (if I miss that our wedding anniversary isn't to far away after ) please help another mopar brother out . Here's the car so you guys know what car were talking about

First thing I would do is contact your local tag and title company and tell them your situation. If they are a long standing company in the community, they will know what you need to do. Try to avoid the DMV unless it's your only choice.

Look up these folks if you find yourself with no local DMV alternative. It is one of those storage lien places, but I've already had good experiences with them.

Plus, since they're Florida based, for about the same cost as a tag agency on top of the fees, he can put that Florida title in your name: http://www.7173mustangs.com/thread-positive-hollywood-title-lien-cartitleusa

I hope you get this mess straightened out. It would be a lovely present for your wife.

I see "Florida fast title" at car shows and swap meets.

Spoke to them briefly and was told "call the office".

The thing that scares me is that almost every avenue seems to include "find someone to run the VIN through NCIC", and citizen requests for that and non-case related officer access has been restricted due to abuse (cops running friend's daughters boyfriends, etc is the story I got), which means unless you know someone that can get around that, an officer will likely open a case to run an NCIC check, and that means you're one step away from a stolen car case open with your name attached.

Please keep us posted.

For the record- I went through Broadway Title a few years ago.

They were the one everyone was talking about at the time.

"no problem" I was told. After a few hundred dollars changed hands, I was told "find a law enforcement officer to run NCIC and send us the report", or pay us more money and we can avoid that.

I paid more money and several months later was told "all we're waiting on is for you to send us your NCIC report".

Thumbs down. BIG thumbs down.

I hear LOTS of people talk about "mechanic's liens" but I've never actually known any one that's done it or can give the specifics. They always say "it's easy, just file a lien", but I think we all know there's got to be more to it than that.

If what YY1 mentions is an issue, call Richard at Hollywood and express your concerns. He'll give you a straight answer and he does all the legwork. You just provide whatever you have to prove ownership plus a photo of the VIN tag and any other identifiers.

And if for some reason it does come up previously stolen within the last 10 years in any database, he'll be able to clear up the mistake. Provided there is a mistake, of course. If the thing is legitimately stolen, you've got another problem that you can't and have no business avoiding.

I've applied for a "lost title" here in Indiana. Do you have that option in Florida?

Only the registered and titled owner can apply for a lost title.

DMV won't even tell you who that is, if it's not you.

Just look up your local DMV's website and you should be able to run the car's vin yourself. You can even run it from the last state it was in. I did that with my satellite that hadn't been registered/tagged since 2010 to make sure it wasn't stolen (bought from a guy who seemed shady)

I know the local police department I can get them to run the vin number if needed that's not a problem I've ran it before with no issues arising
I actually emailed Florida fast title I'm waiting on a reply. I do have the shop lean option too. My buddy says it's simple to do it but the car goes up for action but he said its a private thing or something not sure how that works

I had the same issue when I bought my 66 Satellite, but through some research found the last known owner to had registered the car in 1985. I knocked on his door and explained the situation. I also told him he would be receiving a replacement title in the mail and when he received it could he give me a call. Two weeks later the guy called and said he had the title and was happy to sign it over to me. I guess I got lucky but it's worth a shot. If you have a way of running a VIN # you can find the last owner or at least were he once lived and back track from there. If you can find him call your local DMV and request a replacement title in his name and address. It worked for me. Good luck.
