I've been thinking about this for some time and I'm just wondering how much work is there to the switch? I understand I'd have to drill a hole in the floor but how hard is it to run the cable through and get hooked up properly? Would I need any extra parts besides the shifter and cable?

I have I believe all you need for your car. It came with a bunch of stuff I bought that was 1969 440 console auto.

I did this once "back in the day" on my 1968 Fury III. I went to the boneyard and found a donor car with all the parts already in place and I removed everything. That way I knew exactly where everything went and I had all the correct bolts and brackets that I needed to put it into the other car. 696pack (the above poster) may have everything you need also. When I did it I wanted a nice clean look to the old column but I didn't want to replace the entire column, nor did I want to remove the steering wheel and replace the existing jacket that had the stub for the column shifter with one for the floor shifted model, so I took a hacksaw and sawed the stub off, then cleaned up the edges with a small air grinder. I then filled it in with body putty (Bondo) and painted it. Ya couldn't tell! The jacket is aluminum so it was easy to work on.

Aftermarket is pretty easy to do.If you buy a new the kit will come with the correct brackets.

Do you mean like a B&M shifter kit? I don't know of anyone that makes a shifter kit for an original type floor shift/console car.

Here are some links to sites that offer sme of the items needed but I don't think EVERYTHING is avaialble for all models.

It won't take long after looking at the prices to see that if you are starting with nothing and trying to create a factory 1969 working console shift automatic it will be 1000s of dollars. I have MOST or what you need but don't have the console body that IS reproduced.

I've installed lots of the B&M and Hurst rachet shifters.Brackets are all there for pretty much any automatic trans.Just follow the instructions and you'll be fine. When routing the cable just make sure you keep it clear of the exhaust.

Assuming you've used them how are they? Reverse lockout just means you have to pull the lever or something for it to go into reverse, correct?
