I figured I would save someone some time. There is an ad on carsforsale.com listing a 1970 Roadrunner for $2500. It is here, if you want to see it.. Anyway, since this is listed in Occoquan, VA, and only about 5 minutes from me... I figured I would check it out. At the very least, it could be a parts car if it was really a basket case. I contacted the "owner" and he told me that was selling the car because he was moving from Offutt AFB to Elmendorf. Apparently, now the car was no longer local to me, as was in the listing, but halfway across the country so I wouldn't be allowed to see it. Also, this appears to be an email he copied from a conversation with someone else because he references telling me things.. He and I have not spoken and the first email I sent to him was asking to see the car.
Clue number two was he said he was in the AF in a "special training" but used no language that would indicate to me, having been in the Air Force and having PCS'd a couple of times, that he was military at all. Clue number three.. And this is the fun one. The Thomas S. Power Library on Offutt closed in 2013. Not to mention the fact that there is no way in hell the base would allow someone to store a crated car in the Base Library parking lot! I am posting the second email I got from him for reference below:
Hi again,
As I've told you, at this moment I am in Offutt AFB, NE in a military base. I do a special training program each day and I am not allowed to get out of the unit or call whenever I want. The reason I'm selling this car way below market value is because don't have time for negotiations and I need money before 25 th of April for my next house in Anchorage. The car is already at our Offutt Air Force Base Library form Offutt AFB, NE crated and ready to go.
Like i told you the delivery process is paid by me and I want to finish this deal through eBay because they are the biggest company and we can both be protected and insured. As you can see, you will receive the car in 3 days and you will get the chance to inspect it 7 days. In the inspection period you can test the vehicle. The car will be delivered directly to your requested address as soon as I will have the payment confirmation from eBay. In case you won`t be satisfied with it you can cancel the payment and ship the vehicle back on my expense.
If you’re interested to purchase just email me with your full name, shipping address and your phone number, so I can notify eBay that you are selected as my buyer and they will contact you to explain the entire procedure.
Thank you!!
Steve
This guy is a scammer. I would not waste my time in even looking to buy the car. Like mother said.. "If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is".. I normally wouldn't post an annoyance like this in public, but being a Vet and married to a Vet, it pissed me off that he was pretending to be military to scam someone.
