I'm working to finish my 72 SSP restoration and now working to clean-up the various wiring harness under the hood. After removing black electrical tape (that is another issue - what a mess) from the harness I found one of the wires (dark green with red tracer) between the ignition ballast and the electronic ignition control has been cut. Upon further investigation it appears the where the wire once plugged into the ignition ballast the connector has been hot at some point.
I don't know the history with this issue. The car was this way when I purchased it 3 years ago. For the past two years I've been doing the restoration work. The car run fine before I took it apart. I do remember 2 years ago seeing the "burnt" connector and remember thinking to myself I'll look into that later. Later has now arrived.
Can someone tell me what the broken wire really does? The car ran without this wire attached into the circuit. Is it really needed? See photos below.
