Indy Inline Intake Bolts

When I bought my Indy Inline Intake I forgot to get the bolts. :icon_hang: I e-mailed Indy but haven't heard from them yet. What is the part number for the bolts. I got the intake from Best Machine I wonder if they have them?:idea1:

I'm sure Chuck Best will have them, give him a call. I wouldn't waist my time calling Indy direct. They make great stuff but the customer service from what I hear leaves a lot to be desired.
If Chuck doesn't have them then post on here and I'll get you a phone number of someone who will.

I measured the depth of the bolt holes with the intake on the heads six of them are a little longer than 1 1/2" somrthing like 1.6254 and the two longer ones were 5 3/4"

All bolts were 3/8 -16

I went looking for the 5 3/4" bolts and of course they don't make a 5 3/4" but I was looking for a Grade8 5 1/5" but nothing. They make a 5" or a 6". I was looking for grade 8 but after thinking about it they don't need to be killer strong(DO THEY?) I will look again to see if they sell regular bolts in 5 1/2"

grade 5 will work fine, grade 8 is not necessary

Well that is good and bad news!

Good news: Don't need Grade8
Bad news: I looked at Grade5 when I was there and they only sold 5" or 6" also. Now what? I don't want to use a 1/2" of washers as spacers. Hope the 5" ones are long enough!:icon_hang:

Get the 6" and cut them- put a nut on a little ways up- cut it off where you want, file or grind a slight bevel on the end and then unscrew the nut- if it is tight coming off, move it back and forth to clean the threads if you don't have dies-

I thought of that also. The 6" only has about an inch of threads so was worried that the 1/2" left wouldn't secure it properly. I will give it a go so see how it works.

Another way is all thread with a nut tackwelded to the end -or figure out exactly what length you want and order them from fastenal or someone like that http://www.fastenal.com/web/products/detail.ex?sku=0149697
Another place to look is boat shops- they call them riser bolts

I've extended the threads on a bolt shank using a good sharp die. I wouldn't do that on something that my life depended on but to hold down an intake should be no problem. All the better if you find the correct bolts and they are not $10.00 ea!

I found some Grade3 5 1/2" bolts that should be strong enough RIGHT?

They will work , but be careful of over torquing them- grade 3 is cold worked, 5 and up tempered and quenched which makes the grade 3 a bit quicker to twist up- torque to 20-23 lbs- I would use some blue loctite as they will tend to loosen due to the low torque and lack of temper- it would be better if you used grade 5= what size are you after? 5 1.2 or 5 3/4?

I wouldn't think that they would twist with only 30lbs of torq. Thanks for tips. I will but some lock-tite on them. I looked up ARP bolts and the longest they sell are 5" so they are out. Can't believe it is so hard to find the right bolts. U would think that Indy would have something for this Intake.

I put up two links for 2 places to get the bolts- I know fastenal has them-I woul think you could have them in a few days if you mail order them- we get them from Fastenal
