Hi,

Forgive me if this is a stupid question. I was under the impression that Mopars came from the factory with body color inside the trunk as well. Is this 100% true? I'm looking at a Super Bee and the car is red but the inside of the trunk almost looks like undercoating or that Rhino stuff that they spray inside the bed a pick up truck. Could it be factory undercoating inside the trunk? Thank you for reading this and your help.

Mike

Every car I've owned from 66 up had body color in the trunk and even the coating (basically sound deadener) was sprayed....

Hi Mike...welcome:wav:

What year is your Bee? While most of the cars had the same colour inside the trunk as outside, a gray spatter finish was also an option. Here's the corner of the Plymouth 1970 chart:

My 68 has a rough texture to it to some degree but is painted the body color. When I repainted it recently and slightly changed the color I did the trunk and engine bay in the same color.

I agree but I think it was limited to C body cars. I have never heard of or seen any 66-70 B body with the splatter paint they have always been body color. Pleas someone correct me if I'm wrong.

The top of that colour chart listed 'Valiant, Barracuda, Satellite, Fury' for the cars it was meant for.

Meanwhile, this is in the 1970 Plymouth shop manual under the Satellite section -

I had a 66-Belvedere II that I bought in 1968. It was sold new here in Sweden,(means export car) Body color was black, but trunk was that Tree Tone Splatter paint.

Hi everyone, thank you for all your responses. The model year Bee I'm looking at is a 1969. I don't own it yet. Supposedly, "it was never restored". Yes, it looks like a rough texture and it's definitely Flat black. Before I call the owner, I just wanted to arm myself with knowledge. I hope he doesn't give me a BS answer because then I'll wonder what else he's covering up. Thank you again.

A 69 superbee should have a body color trunk. There will be undercoating on the inside of the quarter panels, also painted body color. As you mentioned I would be leery of what they are trying to hide under the splatter paint unless they can prove otherwise.
Good luck on the car.

Flat black is 34 kinds of WRONG, either way.

Definitely body color. If he is claiming no restoration then I would say there is a cover up. But just because it's on there doesn't mean it's a complete mess. The trunks were known to rot. Mine has some small pin holes after media blasting but I am leaning towards spraying the same material but in a body color.
