Does the pitting we may find on some intake manifold mating surfaces create a problem with making a good seal? I have an intake manifold that appears to have sat in the mud for years before listed on epay. After cleaning it up, removing the rust, I find the mating surfaces to the heads to be pitted. This concerns me it may produce a vacuum leak. For this reason, I've not put it into service.

Should I be worried? I plan to used an OEM-like stamped steal gasket. But I'm left wondering if I need to do more with the mating surfaces when installing. One colleague recommends using a layer of silicon sealant, or similar gasket-making goo. This bothers me a little in principal. All advice and opinions welcome.
