I "just" put the VIN of my Renegade in a google search before I bought it and a few sites had the info I was looking for before the need to click through their paywall.

IE how many times it had been registered/by who and any documented repairs.

Prior to 1981 17 digit requirements, they're
all over the map and to numerous to keep
accurate records.
