Just for fun...

Who needs a radio when you have engine music like that!

Thanks Rev;way cool to see laps at Monza from a driver's perspective. I had fun trying to pick out the cars that passed by. I think the first(red) one was a Ferrari 312P,circa 1969-70. Also saw a Ferrari 512LM(may have been a 365LM,with some funky coachwork by Scaglietti,I think),and a couple of Porsche 911 variants. I love it when the white sports racer(Chevron B12?) passes in the corner only to get blown away by the Charger on the following straight. American horsepower indeed!

That track is incredible. From all the old stories I've read(and the ones I've been fortunate enough to have heard first hand);Spa(in Belgium),Rheims(France)and Monza were tracks that separated the true Speed Merchants from mere mortals. I know the Nurburgring is awe-inspiring,and the old Oesterreichring(sp?-I'm wingin' it here)was another scary place in Austria, but the three mentioned were the ones that raised the element of fear.

I've been following that car for a while. It's kind of a cool story of stock car racing history. Besides, it's fun just living vicariously in the driver seat of a race hemi/4speed car going full throttle through the gears. (Not to mention the occasional off-road excursion).
Best part? It's a B body. It's a hemi. It's a 4 speed. What else do you need?

That....WAS AWESOME!!! got a pic of it Rev? or know the name of the car?

It's the Oly Express. It's being raced over in Europe as part of the vintage racing series. Back around 76 Nascar decided to expand it's appeal across the pond to race at Le Mans, so they sent a few stock cars over. One of which was a big bad Dodge Charger, the Oly Express. I don't remember all of the details, but this car is an actual 74 Charger stock car that was in the process of being restored by a collector who passed. A joint venture of three guys were trying to get a car ready for the 30th anniversary of that event and purchased this car and finished it as the Oly Express. (Some of the original people involved helped with this car). It's a big hit over there now.

If you check out the car on youtube, you can find walk around videos and actual race footage. It's kinda cool to hear the "exotics" go by and then this thunderous beast bellow down the track.

I'll try and find the original article on it and post it if I can.

Sweeeeeet! i love old racing history. Esp. if its a MoPar!!

thanks Rev!!!

Yeah, that was cool but too bad all those little mosquitoes kept passing him in the turns. I'd still rather have that big B body over the spaghetti and kraut burners.

that was pretty cool. i was trying to see what he was taching out at but couldn't really tell.

Hey Rev;Herschel McGriff drove that at LeMans in '76,didn't he? Dick Hutcherson was the other driver,if I remember correctly. I remember reading about all the machinations the team had to go through just to get the car classified and the bias by the French organizers(Automobile Club de la Ouest),who conveniently forgot about who comprised the Cavalry back in June 1944. The Euros were blown away(literally and figuratively),by this car and good ol' American HP. I've heard audio of the car going down the Mulsanne;WAY cool.

You are absolutely right Al. I really couldn't remember any names last night. (Too much turkey). They have video of the Express humping down the Mulsanne on Youtube. I'm still looking for a vid of a nascar spec Daytona that was vintage racing in England something like ten years back. Somewhere I have a video of a AAR racing on a track in France getting cockblocked by a little BMW. The Cuda pilot finally gets pissed enough and blows by the guy revving so far into his shift light I thought it would blow off the dash.
