Sorry, but I'm lost now.
I was confident the seal would sit as image "B" but I removed a second one from another transmission and they were both installed as image "A".

So question is:

How should I install the kickdown seal?
Image A or B?

Thank you!

Yes, that seal is to keep oil in the transmission. Lip down, image B.
Interesting. I agree seals typically have the lip face whatever you want to keep "in", so maybe mine was assembled wrong at some point in its life. Very possible, but as far as I recall, I think every 727 I've ever done has the seal positioned as in photo A. Maybe they went with orientation A as an exclusion seal to prevent contamination entering the trans?

There is a washer and a clip on top of the seal, I can't see any dirt getting in there, but I can see oil leaking out. I go with what I think is right, so I install them lip down. I have not worked on a lot of transmissions however.
