How do you take off old leaf springs and put on new ones the right way on1969 superbee

Jack car up and support with jack stands on the frame in front of the spring hanger. Use the jack to support the rear axle. Do one side at a time. remove tire, remove lower shock from shock plate, remove U-Bolts holding axle to springs, remove rear shackle. Geting the rear shackle out of the frame/spring can be difficult if it has the original rubber bushings (be prepared to replace them.) Use a prybar to pry the shackle out of the frame, be careful, the spring will drop to the floor once the shackle is free from the frame. Remove the front spring hanger (4-nuts), and pull the old leaf spring out. Remove the front spring bolt from the hanger, and swap the hanger and bolt onto the new spring. Make sure the hanger is oriented correctly, the lower bolts on the hanger are narrower than the top bolts. The front spring bolt goes in from the frame side so the nut it to the outside of the car. Put the new spring back under the car and bolt up the front hanger. The rear bushing hole in the body will probably need to be cleaned up before you can install a new bushing. Anyhow, install the rear frame and spring bushings, and install the shackle. Replace the U-Bolts (I think stock U-Bolts are 7", Mancini racing has them), and tighten the shock plate back on,and put the shock back on. repeat on the other side.

As noted above, make sure to replace the U-bolts as the old ones will have stretched, the nuts as well as the right ones have a special thread so they won't come loose. You might find it easier to buy new front hanger assemblies, I couldn't get mine off the old springs due to paint and rust, new ones were a lot easier.

What is the best way to unload the leaf spring prior to removing them. I have the frame supported and differential by jack stands. When I removed the shackle bolt the leaf spring unloaded and nailed me in the jaw, it was like being hit with a sledge hammer. I don't want to do that again on the other side.
Also, I haven't installed the new leaf spring yet what is the best method, front hanger first, then u-bolt, then shackle? What's the best way to support the car/or leaf spring for install.

Jackstands under frame, rear tires just off floor. Jack under rear axle housing, and jack the axle to a point where the rear shackles are pointing straight down (no load). Then you just loosen all the fasteners, leaving them in place.

Then...you remove the rear shackles, carefully, using the jack under the axle, if needed. Once the rear shackles are off, it can all be lowered.
