Hi all

I've just received a headliner I ordered for our 69 Sport Satellite from Legendary and immediately noticed that the material finish is not the same as the original, which is still fitted to the car.
I selected what appears to be the correct one - there arent really any options apart from colour choice - although I opted for their 'OEM Material' which is supposed to be more like the original (a $40 extra option so you'd expect it to be better in some way).

The difference is in the sheen of the material. The new one has a definite glossiness about it whereas our original is much more of a matt finish.

Has anyone else here bought a headliner from Legendary and found the new material doesnt quite match the old?

I've asked them by email to confirm whether we've ordered the correct material for our car and whether there's any other options but havent had a reply yet.

I can guess what the reply will be though :BangHead:

They got the stitching colour wrong on our Polara's seat covers (red instead of white) and said "that's how they were originally" despite me sending them photos of our original seat vinyl with white stitching :tongue3:

My guess (and it's just that) is that the 'sheen' may not match between a new part and a 40-yo original.

The issue with the stitching may be that yours was a 'rare (Mopar loved to do this) way of doing it at their factory.

Long and short. Legendary is pretty dead-on with their products. They may not be 100% but you may have a one-of-ones one your hands, can't be mad about that if you have your photos.

My 73 originally had cloth type headliner material, and talking with Legendary, that material is not available, but what they use now is a vinyl type perforated material that is as close to what they can get.

Just had one installed that was a REM brand and it is the same way with a slight sheen to it,fit was excellent.

Thanks guys. I think it's more a case of the original material being a 'cloth type' material like 'idrivemopar's' than just a vinyl that's faded, but it prob has detriorated a bit over the previous 43 years. Like most of us do :icon_mrgreen:

Should be taking the car to the upholstery guy next weekend so I'll keep you posted how it goes. Fingers crossed.... :eusa_eh:

I have Legendary and love it. Now something that is new will never look exactly as something that is 40 years old, even if it is cut from the same material by the same mfr. It is good to see that someone actually has something made by REM that they like.
I have been burned by them more times than I care to count.
If I were to run into the CEO of REM I would not pee in his mouth if his teeth were on fire. I allways ask if it is a REM product and if it is I will not buy it.
I suggest you get on lin and check customer reviews and customer satisfaction and decide for your self
