Lets talk Brake pads

First My set-up, 68 B-body with 71 pin type calipers and 11 inch rotors. 11 inch rear drums. Manual master every thing is new. The car stops well with the rears locking on wet pavement with HARD braking. Running a NAPA Tru-stop TS-781 made in china pad. Lots of dust and fading after numerous agressive stops. I know I can upgrade to the 11.75 rotors with brackets. I would like to explore a different compound pad like a Hawk,EBC ect. Will an aftermarket pad give a better initial bite with less fade and dust? All thoughts welcome. Thanks.

Ceramic pads in general stop better than organic or even semi-metallic in my opinion. I've switched back and forth a few times on my Mustang and I can definitely tell the difference. I've not run them, but I've heard the the "towing" or "extreme duty" carbon pads (AutoZone, Advance, etc.) stop almost as well as ceramics & are super good at not "fading" when you use the brakes a lot. I guy I worked with running a blown crown vic swore by them.

Just got some Hawk HPS Ferro-Carbon pads. Going to be a bit before I get them installed and bedded in. I will post results later.

For the modern cars with pads I use Napa Adaptive's only. Clean and squeak free. Great performance.

Last time I checked, ceramic pads were only available for slider calipers.

Dennis H- sorry,$200 per axle is JUST too much for me, although they sound real good. Remember buying semi-metallic shoes WAY back when,(for barely more than asbestos)but they had to get warmed up before they worked good. I'll go for "green"? non-asbestos linings from autozone or NAPA. Boy those semi-metallics really worked though.

Asbestos, though outlawed for the last 27 years now --- IS STILL the VERY BEST braking surface known to mankind.......
I have some ++ N.O.S. ++ Asbestos ++ Brake Pads --- manufactured long ago, and before the statutes -- so they ARE
legal to transact on !!!!!!!!
Also have some -- not many -- 11" x 3" ++ N.O.S. ++ Asbestos ++ Brake Shoes !!!!!!!!!!!!!
