does anyone here run a fuse inline on there racecars main battery cable in case it would short out? and if you do what amp fuse did you use ?. I think it would have to be a pretty high amp fuse because of the starter draw mainly. a local racer burnt his trailer and car to the ground last week towing home. he forgot to shut his master switch off and the cable shorted out inside the car and caught on fire. they did not get to it before it got out of control. both were a total loss.

That is why I opted to run a ford solenoid that way the cable from the trunk to the starter is dead when the key isn't in the start position. Only a short 2ft cable from the battery to the solenoid is live. I do run another smaller cable up to feed my accessories but it has a fuse-able link that will melt if it shorts out.

Factory rear mounted battery's never use a fuse. However they are run with common sense can't tell you how scary a lot of wiring is I've seen. Also why leave the power on when not in use?

I have a resettable 150amp breaker up by my starter
Summit Racing $27.95 Sum-900271 on the main + cable

Breaker 150 amp resetable sum-900271_ml $24.97 Summit Racing.jpg

that goes back to the rear mounted trunk battery
I figured it wouldn't hurt,
I org. had a 100 amp flat fuse before I went to a breaker
we use to use them a lot in build areal equipment on trucks

there're like $34
Electrical Fuse 100 amp Eaton Bussman Flat Fuse $39.60 ea..jpg

but at that amp. it's take a big short to trip it,
the breaker is actually cheaper too...

Done the resettable breaker style since 1997 so far so good...

I used a 100 amp flat fuse that I purchased at my local NAPA store.

thanks for the info guys. I am putting this one right after cut off switch. I think it will do the job.

Many starters will draw way more than 100amp. Even our new inline alternator fuses are 200 amp. Working in the electrical lab at Chrysler we test this stuff every day.

Naa, 1 ought welding cable from the positive terminal direct to the starter stud.

I do have the high amp Moroso shut-off in the trunk tho.

My dome light still works so it's a nice reminder the battery is still active.

Bum deal for the fella that lost it all.
