i bought a new one and the center prong is extended down, should this prong be pushed back up in center of cap? i see most with prong pushed upward and not extended down toward rotor. thanks
That center prong is simply a spring-loaded carbon contact. Yes, is should extend out a little, to make positive contact with the metal contact arm on your rotor.
Tune-up, a good idea to always check it, whether using the old cap, or even a new one. Carbon contact should be in good shape (not broken), and spring (load) good.
If the contact is stuck in the hole, probably won't work right.
