Hi all,

recently went on a drive with friends, and drove a bit on cobble road. right after the car started missfiring. I think i found that one spark plug wire came off, i tried putting it back, but it kept sliding off. later discovered that the tab that keeps the wire on the plug rusted away and broke. i have msd system (including wires), and after what seemed like 2 weeks and many different repair kits, i finally replaced the spark plug wire fitting, but it slid off again. just imagine me flipping the table. At this point im so pissed i think im just going to replace all the spark plugs and the wires.

So car was restored 10 years ago, 10k miles ago. Is it time to replace the plugs and wires (a friend of mine said its time)? i assume on older cars its not really mileage based, so maybe time for new stuff?

What spark plugs do i need (could you please provide brand/part number? all spark plugs are different size)? i see so many different posts on this... i have pretty much stock 383. do i need any special spark plug socket or just a 17mm will work (i have doug's headers)?

can anyone tell me what spark plugs i should get?

spark plug debates almost as bad as oil debates, look up the plugs online for your engine, I prefer Autolites, Champion are more forgivable if running rich or any oil burning, but also are as good in my opinion. Points .035 gap, hei/ or electronic ignition .045 gap. buy quality wires and consider boot shields as mentioned earlier

Recommended Champion Plug: Champion RJ14YC or N12YC
Autolite Plug Number: 5325

I would opt for the NGK’s and continued to use MSD wires. My clearance is very tight on my headers so I’ve opted for ceramic boots. They’re a major game changer when you’re deal with grimlins or melting boots.
