I can not use the stock console shifter from the 72 Satellite with the 46re transmission. Just no room for it in the tunnel. I can get a cable shifter through the hole and to the trans. I need some ideas or from experience what shifter will work well with the stock console? Modifying the new shifter and the console is not a problem.

I have a PPPC aftermarket shifter with a rear cable exit with my stock console. I made a riser with a block plate, raising the shifter 6" and moving it back 6" the cables go through my console along with my quarter turn ball valves for the Nitrous Systems running along the top of the console.

I’m no help on the shifter, but how does the 46RE fit? What controller are you using? Do you have a thread on that install?

I’m not familiar with the 72 floor shifter linkage. Wondering where you’re running out of run in the tunnel. The front 75% of the 46 is the same as 727.

The A518 family of transmissions are longer by a couple of inches then the 727. That puts the tail/yoke a little further down from where it would be on a 727. The tail of the trans has to come up to get the pinion angle correct again. Lots of floor modification to get it right. Cutting/trimming of the floor support cross member with some fabrication to add back a little strength, and some hammering on the tunnel for clearence around the front 727 portion of the trans, and the big flange that connects the overdrive.

I am also using the Bouchillion cable kick down system. There is little room to even get the cable back up to the the engine without putting tight bends in it.

My volare uses a B&M Quicksillver shiter in the factory console. Very similar to a B body console. It retains the factory console shift floor linkage. it's mounted on the factory floor brackets shimmed up slightly to fit the opening in the console. There is a short piece of B&M shifter cable connecting the shifter to the factory bellcrank in the floor. Had to modify the B&M bezel slightly to fit the opening. Had to lengthen the factory upper bell crank arm to match the throw of the B&M shifter. All in all pretty easy. No cable to melt under the car.

The B&M shifters are what I have been looking at. They are made to sit on there own small console or base. The Quicksilver, Hammer, and Star shifters.
