I stopped by the shop to get my driveshaft and my buddy shows me a set of tools. His dad has had them for years and was wondering if i was interested in them. They look like a sales promo or something. They are "gold" plated. Have several wrenches and sockets. Only one rachet in 1/2". Looks like it should also have a 3/8 rachet. I think i saw a 1981 year on them. Anyone have any info on this set? worth? I would like to have them but dont want to pay more than there worth. The larger sockets were in a cool styrofoam case shaped like the mopar pentastar.

I just got a phone call from my friend about an o2 sensor for my truck. During the convo he mentions that his dad said $50 on the tools. Also something about them being presented to master mechanics? so should i get them?

At that money they are worth the weight in scrap! Of course you should get them, how much would you spend at Sears to buy the same tools, apples for apples?
I have seen these come up on Craigslist and Ebay in the past, I think they have been giving out these sorts of prizes for years to the techs that are of the highest caliber. There was one of these gold plated torque wrench in a case like it was a presentation piece from Chrysler on Detroit Craigslist a while back. I don't think they'll ever be worth a fortune but tools aren't cheap, so if you find a good deal on useable tools, gold plated or not, I'd say buy them.

$50. is a deal for these. BUY them.

Thanks guys. I actually agreed to buy them before i saw the responses. It looks like several individual sets. There are 2 sets of metric wrenches (5 each) dated 1981. There are two Channel locks (either 1980 or 83). One pair of Vise grips. A 1/2 drive set with sockets fom 1/2 to 15/16. here are 4 metric wrenches that are the really old style gear wrenches (if that makes sense). As mentioned earlier there are probably 20 or so 3/8 drive sockets. No 3/8 rachet. These look the cheapest but everything else looks to be good quality tools made in the usa
