Hey everyone, I'm new to these forums but not new to the majesty of Mopar. While I don't currently have a car, back in college (1998-2004) at any given time, my roommates and I had Mopars in various states of repair. At one point we had my 1969 Dodge Charger RT/SE, a 1971 Dodge Dart Swinger, and two 1965 Plymouth Barracudas under our roof or in our driveway. Those were some excellent times indeed and I'm glad to have found this community.

What's bringing me back in to the Mopar fold, strangely, is that I'm tying the knot. So, for the bachelor party I'm forgoing the typical bachelor party activities to instead spend the week with my old college roommates working on a classic Mopar like we used to. The goal being to purchase the car ahead of time, make our plans, order our parts, and then get together back in CA and get as much done in a week as we can. Once we are done with the week, we'll sell the car and hope to recoup at least some of the initial money spent (unless someone wants to buy everyone else out). We are hoping to be able to do this on the relative cheap as some guys have recently bought houses and had kids, but spread across 4 or 5 guys, we'll probably be able to spend up to 8k total. We are definite fans of the pre-1971 b-bodies, so that's what we will be looking for. I'd be interested to hear any of this communities expert opinions on candidate cars and what might be feasible in a week. All of the guys in the group took part in an engine rebuild, dash rewiring, and suspension rebuild during our college years, but it was over the span of a year, not a week, so our estimates of what we can accomplish might be a bit off.

Anyway, I'm really looking forward to interacting with this community during the project and sharing our progress in the Spring.

welcome to FBBO, sounds like a great ol' stable of Mopar Horse Power, good luck with the Mopar B-Body Build Bachelor Party, sounds like fun, where in Calif. will this take place ?? NorCal or SoCal ?? there's allot of nice rust free/mostly anyway, Mopars here to do a projects, the $8k is kind of limited thou, you won't get a hole lot with that, but can if you look hard enough... I may have some select few good or re-buildable performance & other parts possibly, if you want, for you guys relatively cheap, here in Eastern Central Ca. foothill, possibly depending on what all you need, what all you end up with/buy or a project, mostly take off from 68-71 RR's or Chargers & Big Blocks, no junk, just aprts...

Sounds like a good 90's buddy movie and I can almost hear the guy who does the movie preview voiceovers talking now. I have my doubts about what you guys can accomplish with an $8K total budget if you expect a running driving car for that amount but it is definitely interesting.

That's a very good idea Eric. You guys should check FCBO they post nice C body cars from CL and ebag all time. The mid 60's versions are my fav

Hey Guys, thanks for the welcome and the advice! I definitely agree with you that $8k is a pretty tight budget. That being said, we don't really care how the car looks (as long as it isn't crumpled all over, completely missing body panels, or rusted through so bad that the first time we hit the gas the car twists up like a towel being wrung out). I think the early to mid-60's b-bodies are going to be a good option for us. The idea about 4 dr. cars is definitely an option. We would prefer 2 doors, but beggars can't be choosers. Fortunately, everyone in our group is pretty patient and persistent, so I think we could find a roller for a good price and then get a motor/trans combo and the bare minimum parts to get it running/driving safely and legally. If we can achieve that goal, then I think we will have succeeded.

Regarding the location, it's still a little up in the air. We would like to do it at my buddies in the East Bay area, but he is closing on a new house and we have to see if he will have a good place for the work. If that falls through, then we will probably do it at my other buddy's place in SoCal. Thanks for the offer for cheap parts Budnicks! We will definitely keep that in mind as we iron out the bigger details.

Just as a side note, here are a few pictures of my old Charger that I was able to dig up (the first pic also gives a glimpse of one of our Barracudas too). I'll keep looking for a picture of the full stable of cars that I know we took at one point.

keep me posted, let me know... where in the East Bay ?? just curious... I use to be a Concord Ca. guy, born & raised, lived in Pleasant Hill, Walnut Creek, Antioch, San Jose, before I moved to Rancho Murieta Ca. {east of Sacramento} then latter to Sonora Ca. Area {I keep moving east} & I know the bay area very well, my old offices were in Hayward, Port Chicago & Concord Ca., I worked there for many years, with an automotive dealership group....

cool Charger by the way, thanks for sharing

I'm not entirely sure the exact location, but I'm pretty sure it's somewhere in or around Oakland. I'm a born and raised SoCal guy (until recently that is), but I have always loved the Bay Area. I will definitely let you know once we have a few more details sorted out and start planning the specifics. Thanks again!

Welcome to FBBO Matt, and good luck on your search for a new project. There are still decent driver Mopars out there in the 8 to 12K range. You just have to keep looking and be persistent.
