Chatting with a bud today about my RR and he suggested maybe a little more gear.502 hp 440,full manual 727 with a 3500 stall and a 323 rear gear.He thinks that the converter will be constantly working on the street and should go with a lower gear.Thoughts?

he is right, once you get up there in HP and have not enough gear the trans is working harder and could burn up .... i would say atleast 3.55's ... i have 4.10's in mine and its a little much for street driving, especially w/ only 3-speeds ! one of these days i will be getting an extra center section w/ 3.55's for street and swap in 4.10's for track ....

I would use a 3.91 gearset. I don't think you'll be spinning enough RPM's with anything higher. Of course, that also depends on tire size. Do you really need that much converter? Or, what type of driving will you be doing?

Yeah, I'd say 3.91 or 4.10 should make the car happy.

If I got it right with a 3500 stall you want 3500 rpms at cruise speed so the verter stalls and doesnt generate heat or waste power. So a 3.55 or 3.91 would get you there at 70.
