When I bought my Charger, I noticed the rear line for the M/C was crossed threaded. So I recently changed the M/C and went to bleed the brakes and noticed a small amount of fluid at that fitting. I tried to tighten it, thinking it was just loose. It was nice and tight. So, I wanted to see what's going on and grabbed the line and see if it was loose at all. Sure, as sheet, it will move just a little bit in and out of M/C, meaning for some reason it will not seat. Anyone think I should get a flaring tool from Autozone and maybe try flaring it a little bit more?

I have had bad luck with those cheap line flaring tools. I had to step up to an Eastwood unit to get good results.

That looks like the wrong fitting for that inverted flare. Maybe a bubble flare fitting? Dunno? But it should protrude out from the end of the fitting.

I think the fitting is incorrect looks like a bubble flare fitting and not an inverted flare.
The flare itself looks fine to me.

Oops Mike has the quick trigger finger.

Maybe it wasn't cross threaded, just the wrong thread.

Looks like a chevy cylinder.
I agree, fitting is wrong, may need a reducer / bushing

Could very well be. I have to say, the line was a little crooked and the threads on the M/C were done. I was able to pull them out. I just assumed they cross threaded it. I’m going to contact classic tube and see what they say about the flare and the fitting.

Yes, the M/C is a chevy M/C.
I would either cut it off, toss the fitting and repair the end or get the correct line new.
Im looking into that now.

That is the correct style factory inverted nut for a master cylinder. Problem is they are not very compatible with after market master cylinders. Cut the nut off and order the more common style nut and double flair. I've had this problem multiple times, even with brand new lines from inline tube as that is the style fitting they use at the master cylinder. If you try to tighten too much it only catches a few threads and you will ruin the master.

Here's some random examples of what you may have to dig around for in the back bins of the old parts store

It looks like after doing some running around. I need a 9/16-18 inverted female to a 9/16 male adapter. But guess what, I can't find anything that matches that. I just don't get it, the closest I can come to is a 3/8 24. :BangHead: I guess I have no choice but to cut this line and hopefully I can flare it with a different fitting.

Tell what size you need I’ll mail you one. One line is 9/16 the other is 1/2. I have both in the shop. Send me your name and address.

Thanks, allot, this is why I am glad I found this forum. I know you guys have the same problems I'm finding, these cars fight you on everything. I can't catch a break for ****. Thanks for the offer, I was going to try and just find an adapter without have to cut anything and then have to flare it.

Ok fellas, this is how things went in the 99-degree weather. (My wife is fully convinced I'm nuts, but she's not the one who just bought a 67 Charger and is dying to get it in driving condition). I went to AutoZone, picked up the correct 3/16 nuts, flaring tool and tubing bender. Well, it seems the nuts fit the M/C much better, but the flaring tool didn't do a damn thing. Didn't even make a dent. The line must be stainless steel. I might just have to use one from AutoZone and bend it up. I will update you guys on how that goes tomorrow, maybe I can get the damn brakes bled before the new year.

Find an old parts guy with a weatherhead cat and look at the 7900 series adapters and find the one you need to go to standard line nuts look at 7913 as may be what you want
