Funny story about when I was in USMC boot camp. One of the Di's used to love to try and get us to laugh so he could thash us in the "classroom". One day He told 2 of us to go to the company office to get more TP. He chose myself and another guy. My last name is Kobylinski, the other guys name is Sokilowski. The way to carry lots of rolls of TP in an orderly military manner is to load them onto a broomstick so you can march with one guy on each end, and still salute if needed. So, we go and get the requested TP and as soon as we re-entered the squadbay the DI was raising all kind of ruckus about how we had disobeyed a direct order. I was terrified at this point and totally confused. With total confusion on our faces he explained, with a half sh-t eating grin on his face now, he said " I told you to take 2 poles, you took three! Well, I completely lost it and was subsequently "worn out" in the classroom. I'm not sure the other guy ever got it. True story I will never forget.

My two best buds at MCRD San Diego were named Zerebski and Polowski. Man, the drill instructors had a good time with them. LOTS of pole gags, although I cant recall any specifically, like you did. They'd go to the pit and I'd get bent just for being friends with em. Funnier now, 25 years later

Intell/Ops school, the Tach NCO was struggling with "Miasnikowitzc" and finally just gave up and yelled "Alphabet" Curiously enough, Miasnikowitzc answered.

Even better was in basic, when a young man named Lewis Washington Fort was required to shout his name, and every time, he was singled out for more attention for shouting where he would be assigned instead of his name. Fort, Lewis Washington became a rallying cry for his platoon by the 3rd week. :)
