Hey Guys, I am finally getting my 74 GTX project Started. The last guy that had the car kept it for almost 2 years and did really nothing to it (long story not to be told here) :} Anyway it is going on one of the rotating things ..lol the one I can not spell. And we noticed that the torque boxes are shot along with a some other work we did not anticipate. What I need is some good clear pics of the torque boxes front and rear both sides, so my guy can manufacture some new ones. The alternative is to buy some already pre-manned ones if somebody is making them. This project is now moving very quickly, so good quality pics as soon as possible will be greatly appreciated.
Thank you guys very much in advance.

there is a co. that makes them i'm pretty sure. i think it is METAL SPECIALTIES. someone else on the site could probly tell more accurately than i could.don't have the mag in front of me right now.

I will get some pics up as soon as He gets it stripped, Which should be this week. Then I will be keeping a picture record. Thanx for the info on the Torque Boxes.

You might try Auto Metal Direct

i doubt they have them , they have very few parts for the 73 74 but it is worth a call to find out .

give these guys a call http://www.wildcatmopars.com/Requests.asp

also i think the torque boxes on the 73-74 440 GTX cars are bigger than the other models 400 cars maybe the same but the small block stuff could be smaller .

OK, I know it's been awhile. The car should have paint on it next week or so I'm being told. He had to do a little more metal work than we had anticipated...go figure.. He called today and is needing some good pics of how the torque boxes are installed, front and rear. They were pretty bad and he cut them out after I bought the new ones but did not install right away. Well here we are a few months later and neither he nor I can remember how they were installed. So I come to you and ask if someone can please take some good pictures of the installed torque boxes on your 73-74 RR/GTX. I would very much appreciate this as he is ready to install and would like to get them in before he paints later this week. I will post some pics tonite after work of where it was a few weeks ago. I will go back this weekend and get some more pics now that she is in full primer. As always Thanx in advance for your help.

I really need some pics of the torque boxes. Please post some, or if you know of any links to some pics, let me know. I'm sure we can figure it out, but would really like to see pics to make sure we are correct. Again Thanx in Advance.

:hug:This isn't a big help but I think Muscle Mopar or Mopar action did a install with pics on a Roadrunner? I may have or sometimes you can find the articles on their site. A collision diagram would give you specs and measurements or you might find in the sevice manual a picture of the exhaust or something underneath the car will show detail of torque boxes. Restoring cars for 15 years makes you real creative at sourcing info you may or may not have had to begin with! Or you could go to a local collector car dealer with a tape measure and camera and play "prospective buyer". Or if you know the name of somebody in your area who has a car like yours, google them, get a phone number and call them up to see their car. Mopar people are always glad to help. We need pictures. Which I am guessing you are not taking as we seem to not have one of the torque boxes....

I already have a call into the roadrunner.net guys, nothing yet from them. I got the torque boxes from restorick.com he has the license to the exact stampings or so he told me. The rears are specific to the 71-74 B-bodies and the fronts are the same for the B and E bodies. They are very quality pieces. The reason we did not take pictures under the car is because I assumed that all roadrunners would have them. We had to take some frame rail segments from the RR donor car I had as the GTX was a Chicago car and had a tad bit of rust. I got both cars for 2K and its a good thing cause the GTX had a lot of rust as we got into it. Anyway in our haste and lack of knowledge we cut things out without thinking that the two cars would have some differences other than Engine and cosmetics. Oh well you live and learn. Thanx for all the input so far. I even looked at the modeling sites and found several 74 GTX models but they are obviously incorrect as they do not have the Torque Boxes on them. All I need is a couple of decent pics and we will be on our way.
Thanx, Clay

Sorry, the article I was thinking of is 12/2006 Mopar Muscle and it was a install on a early Barracuda. I was just sure that they did it on the project beeper 71 RR but I couldn't find it.

It would appear that nobody has pictures of the 73-74' locations. Here's a 72', it's been many years since I've laid eyes on torque boxes on a 74' b-body but I don't recall them being that much different from the 71-72's.

For 71-72' there were box plates near the shackle pivots that were part of the "U&V" code body reinforcements.

Thank you very much. Those Boxes look Identical to the ones I bought for the 74. I will get these pics to my Paint and Body Guy ASAP. Again Thank you. Went to the shop today, the car is in Total primer, he is hoping to get it wet sanded and Painted before the Christmas Holidays. Will get some pics up as soon as I figure out how to.
