Ok, so I'm installing a new Hellwig sway bar on my 69 RR. I've got the brackets on the frame, bushings on and Ubrackets that bolt it to the frame in place...

Here's the problem.... I can't seem to get the support bracket that runs from the front of the crossmember to the radiator support back on the way it was. The sway bar is in the way. I have the hump on the sway bar that is supposed to clear the bracket, facing up, just like on the stock bar, but it is still too low and interferes with the support bracket.

Not knowing if mine was installed correctly in the first place, can someone tell me if the end of the support bracket should go under the crossmember or over it? I ask because it looks like if I put it under the crossmember, it might clear the sway bar, but it doesn't look right.

Someone else must have one of these installed on a 68-69 B Body, can someone send me a pic?

Here's the bracket in question.

There are a lot of combinations of sway bars out there over the years it would be frustrating to have a bar for a car with out a factory bar fit on a car with factory bars but without all the original parts or mix ... some of the problem is where they mount up but all should be below the bracket. Take some more pictures of the lower control arms and the k member

Control arms are out of the vehicle. Here are some pics of the sway bar and brackets.

I have the same set up I called hellwig and they were useless did this 20 years ago and from your pics they have not changed a thing here is my solution that I finally figured out 20 years later. you will have more problems once you put those control arms back on because the sway bar links will not line up the have to be bent to get them to fit I left that bracket off for 20 years until a couple of months ago I bought from ebay different mounting brackets for the sway bar it will move the bar back closer to the correct location and you can mount the bracket back up but on the back it will change from the top to bottom or bottom to top i forgot but at least it will go back up the brackets are energy suspension 5.5135g sway bar bushing set I bought it for the mounting brackets they fit nice and everything will go back into place except for that minor snag in the back but at least it goes in and now the links are straight again

I read an interesting thread on Moparts that was the same issue but with a Hotchkiss bar not fitting. Same deal, radiator support bracket wouldn't go back on. Dan from htchkiss replied first saying to install upside down (hump down). Then said that he had done this with his and was tired of hitting things with it and removed the bar!

When there were some questions by people about OE fit claims he said that these cars were so inconsistent in their builds that it will only fit correctly on some 69 RR's...what kinda BS is that? your telling me that the distance from the K-member to the radiator varies greatly from one car to the next in the same year? This seems highly unlikely.

anyway not sure what to do about it yet... don't think I want it upside down.

I did not have to install my support upside down I bought the energy suspension mounts for the stabilizer bar and now I can put the support back in just that the rear part of the support is just mounted on the bottom of that lip rather than the top of that lip the front part where it goes to the support will remain the same so it will look correct

I did not like the fact you spend good money on a product and get no support and then speak to you like you don't know what your doing I like the bar and keeping it in the car I think it does make a difference

After market parts are fun Arent thay ?!?!?

just put a spacer under the brace,,its very simple

thanks cdr The seems like the rout I'm going to have to take.
