No, it shouldn't. Ballast resistor needs to be matched to your coil, it shouldn't matter whether you're using an orange or chrome box. I burned up a new MSD blaster coil in just a few months using the stock ballast resistor instead of the one MSD recommended. Later on I switched from an orange to chrome box, haven't had any problems, still using the resistor that came with my new MSD coil.
