Just wondering if anyone has installed a new fuel tank and if you or what you used to coat or paint it? I was thinking of using a zinc based coating like Eastwood Tank Tone or something like that?

Recommendations?

I was thinking it was tin coated, but i cant tell if it is or not. The whole tank is coated in light oil. I am guessing that is to keep corrosion from happening but if its tin coated why would it be coated with oil? Its a spectra premium brand, anyone know is that the only major manufacturer?

Yep same a rust inhibitor - well i guess depenhds where u live ... but a active potective coating will make it last...plus looks soo good gloss black (ron) I did mine steel silver.

Thank you sir! I did it manly because I didn't wanting it rusting, and i just painted the differential and leaf springs, had some left and thought it wouldn't hurt and look better to. There is a product, Por-15 that has some kind you put in your tank and swish it around and keep the inside like new you could check on, Im pretty sure it was a Por-15 product.. Never thought of silver, it would look like new and still give it protection.. Great idea! Mine didn't look like it had any "tin coating" Mine from Vans auto, maybe it did.. If this is what it looks like..

All depends on what "look" you want--Ma Mopar didn't paint 'em before they left the assembly line--this one's got 3 clear coats.

Actually they are galvinized from the factory along with the straps. Most repos are too except Van's are painted. I have a pretty decent original in my 72. Justed cleaned it up being carefull not to remove the finish and use a clear coat.

I just clean them off, and then wax them once a season.

Debating weather or not to re paint mine or get a new one. Would be nice to have piece of mind that a new one is under there instead of wondering what's floating around in the tank lol

Thats exactly why i bought a new one, Mine came with the car and off, but there was some loose rust and after i was finished with the car and driving more regularly thought it a good idea to buy a new one instead of hoping there wasn't any left, which im sure being there was some in it, more could come loose, just wasn't worth it, so when i had extra $$ i replaced it, its worth it for peace of mind not to mention maybe ruining a new carb i just put on it.

And now i wished i would have cleared it, these look good!

Or, instead of that you can do what i did on my 68 Fury.... Hehe
