Hello to all reading this. I purchased a real 1971 Roadrunner with a 383 on Thanksgiving. I was looking up some information and came across this site and thought it might be a good idea to become a member.
The car I purchased is a definite project. It needs lower rear quarter patches, a trunk floor, trunk extensions, passenger front and driver rear floor work. The doors, hood, trunk lid and rocker panels are in excellent condition. The fenders have already been patched with metal and look good. There is rot in the metal around the front and rear windshields but I acquired replacements from a donor car with the purchase of the vehicle. Front and rear bumpers are dent free. The front valance has a small, easy to repair dent and the rear valance as well. Both are rust free though. The grills are also in excellent condition. I also have the original 383 and 727 transmission. I have not looked at the rear yet but I am confident it is an 8 3/4 as I was told by the previous owner.
The car has manual brakes and manual steering. I plan on keeping the manual steering but upgrading to front disc brakes. The car was originally a bench seat car but the previous owner got rid of it and gave me bucket seats and a center console with the car. I am going to try and locate another bench seat and sell the console and bucket seats. The car had and still has the rally dash and gauges intact and in good condition.
My last project was a two door 1968 Newport with a 383 for which the after market sold nearly nothing for so I am pleased to have found that the after market makes nearly everything I need for this car. Although parts are not as plentiful as they are for 68-70 Roadrunners, it appears as though I have just about all of the parts the after market does not make.
