Hello everyone! Just joined but have lurked for a long time. I'm looking at a '74 Dodge Charger SE Brougham - 400-4-bbl, auto on column, bench seat with fold down armrest, black, 50,000 original miles, 3rd owner - he has the history back to new! Body is in great shape - no rust, a couple of minor stone chips, seat needs recovered (he has the correct material - it comes with the car), original am/fm radio, dash not cut, dash pad is cracked (common on these cars I know), good tires, engine had all new seals and gaskets put in last year. He said he spent $18,000 on the car in 2005-2006 and has the receipts to prove it. From thepics it looks realy good. He's asking $11,900 for it safetied - just wondering what you guys think?
Thanks
Mike

Howdy Mike, it would help if you had some pictures. But with the information you giving, I would say it doesn't sound like a bad deal. But I always pay too much for stuff. If you like it and it's what you been looking for, it's right there close by. Waiting for the next one that close may be awhile. You could find others on the net, but won't be able to inspect them in person without a trip. Besides, it's only money and you can't go for a ride on a dollar bill.

Welcome. Hard to say if it is worth it. Have you checked out valuation sites? Really it's only worth what someone is willing to pay for it. Good luck.

welcome to FBBO good luck with the 74 Charger SE Brougham, it sounds like a decent/nice car, the price doesn't sound too bad either {I don't know the Canadian Values thou}, just do your due diligence & check it out very thoroughly, before you buy...

Welcome and what does the Bro-ham look like? If it's in very good looking, driving, and performing condition it's probably worth what he's asking but depending on interior, exterior, mechanical looks and condition that's subject to personal interpretation. What is the color combination and are your prices Canadian or American?

The car is trple black, price is Canadian. I looked at the car yesterday and while it is nice shape there are a few things that throw me off it. He is advertising it as 50,000 original miles but it doesn't look like it's original. The driver seat spring is broken, the seat is torn, new capret, new floor, re-chromed bumpers, some of the trim isn't on right, the steering is extremely loose and sloppy and the brake pedal travels almost to the floor. Brake pedal issue is probably from the rear shoes needing adjustment and possibly some fluid added so that's not too big a deal. The steering feel bothers me - very sloppy - almost like it needs a steering box and there is a very pronounced pull to the right when driving. I wasn't comfortable driving the car the way it is and would have to do the entire front end if I bought it just to satisfy myself. Also, it sags very low in the rear - more so than others I have looked at. I'm going to check the numbers on it but will probably pass. I only have the pictures he sent to me and didn't download them yet - maybe tonight.

The slop in the steering may be the idler arm (which may contribute to the slight pull) and as well check the rag joint steering coupler for excessive play.

keep on the hunt...always run thru the for sale section on here and FABO

Welcome aboard Mike
Gee, a magnificant 70 Superbee just sold at Mecum auction past weekend for $26,000
My point:
$12,000 for a 74 S/E 400 CI
OR
$26,000 for the 70 Superbee

Again, it depends what you want to pay...
Good luck,
keep us posted.
