changing out new valve covers on my 383. do you have to remove inside backsplash plate for breather cap. when I installed new cap it seems to be tight up against it.

Forgot to mention there mopar performance.

If you remove the baffle, oil will splash up onto and into the oil cap eventually leaking out onto your valve covers. The baffle is intended to prevent this.

20150321_064046.jpgafter three attempts I finally got the driver side to seal completely. used felpro. I know there are others out there that have had the same issues trying to get a true fit with the gasket Because of the tight fit I kept knocking the gasket out of place. A friend offered some advise. Use more gasket seal and put a light coating of grease on the head side of gasket to help it seal. That helped but the true trick was to trim the inner part of the gasket between the bolts. About 1/8th inch. After that I now have 0 leaks

sorry passenger side

Don't know about notches, but snugging after heat cycles did the trick for me.

not sure why those notches are there but it was causing the gasket to get knocked out of place every time I tried to installed it. As for snugging the gaskets after heat cycles. That's exactly what I did. No more oil leaks!

Are both you guys using MP valve covers on iron heads? If so, what part number are your cork gaskets?

yes mopar performance aluminum covers to iron heads. Don't have the part number but there felpro cork. Tried the rubber gaskets had problems. so I went to the cork

Those look like the thin cork gaskets. I tried the thick ones and they leaked but I did not gradually tighten them over several heat cycles like Dennis advises.

yes they need to be tightened after a few heat cycles. Did the trick for me.
