Hello to all, I'm in sunny and hot So. Ca.
Not sure if this is the right place to ask a question, here goes. I've got a 69 GTX 440 and want to switch to synthetic motor oil. I'm not sure of which brand or viscosity, any suggestions??

I cant really help you, but I have read complaints about the engine seals leaking after using the synthetics, I use MaMopars good ol fashion motor oil.

welcome

I've herd that it can start leaks in places that didn't leak before .

Welcome to the forum. I also live in SoCal and have a 440 GTX. Some really good advice to be had on the site.

Nice 69 GTX

welcome to FBBO from hot, sunny & kind of dry NorCal

Welcome in from the deep south.....New Zealand - fellow 440 GTX owner here.

:welcome:Welcome from yet another 440 GTX owner!
Whatever oil you use, if you have the typical hydraulic flat tappet cam, make darn sure the oil has a good zinc/zddp package!
Some synthetics actually do, but you gotta look hard for 'em.

Welcome aboard. Like mentioned you want to make sure the oil is for a flat tappet cam, modern engines have all moved to roller lifters so they don't require the zdp additives that the oils once had. I run 10W30 Lucas Hot Rod oil but you can also buy pint additives that treat an oil change of the standard oils. Most auto parts stores sell a Valvoline oil that's made for our motors too.

Welcome aboard! No personal experience here but I've heard the "Synthetic causes seal leaks" is primarily with high mileage engines being held together with sludge. I personally use Valvoline VR-1 20W50 racing oil.

Welcome aboard and thanks for joining the forum
Flat tappets?
