Hey there everyone!

New to the site, new to the world of Mopar. My dream car has always been a 1971-74 Charger... and I'm finally at the point where I'm serious about getting one! I'm the kind that likes to do research and learn what I'm getting into, so it's great to check out this site and see what everyone has to say, to look at the some pictures of great vehicles...

A few questions, if anyone feels like chipping in- excuse my newbie ignorance about the B-body...

Are parts difficult to come by for 71-74 Chargers?

Any notorious problems with the car?

What would a reasonable sum be for a Charger in good condition? When I say "good", I mean running well, looking good, but not perfect by any means. I want a car I can drive, willing to put a little work into, but I have no intention on making it into a museum piece.

OK, thanks in advance for the responses, looking forward to driving Mopar soon!

Welcome to the site. You've come to the right place!!

Welcome to the forum-
At least you know what you want-
Bulge hoods seem to be a bit more scarce these days-

Price could be hard to say:
Depending on number matching to overall condition and depending on if you want a project or a driver ...
Id say your going to spend a little more if you want to drive it while you fix-it

I've seen drivers go for as little as $800 lately...and rough ones go for $2000.
Prices on these seem to be all over the place.

I'd say, look on ebay and add several to your watch list. Pay attention to the condition and options, then make an educated, teired scale of what a fair price is (after they sell, or don't sell). That's what I do. I paid just a little too much for mine, considering the condition, but I think it has almost as much value in parts as what I paid. Also check craig's list. I've seen lots of cars NOT sell on CL, but then fetch more than the CL asking price on ebay.

The one that sticks in my craw, was about 6 months ago- 1971 Charger SE, good body, poor paint, hidden headlights, with a non-running 512 stroker and 2 huge Holleys. Was on CL for about 4 months for $3000, then went on ebay and sold for $4000.

Bulge hoods- expect to pay about $750 or more.
The frames seem to rust out easily on those. If you are carefull, sometimes you can find a good skin on a rusty frame (like I did) and graft a flat hood frame onto it (like I'm about to try). My "skin" hood was $250, and my donor flat hood was $50.

Welcome to the forum.

Thanks all

Thanks for the warm welcome. Looking at CL and ebay, prices seem to be all over the place. If anyone knows of a Charger for sale in CA, PM me.

welcome to the site.. i am a 3rd gen fanatic.. so if you have any questions after getting one.. let me know. secondly regarding prices,.. it is really a crapshoot... no one seems to know what 3rd gen's are worth if they are not a 71 charger r/t. that being said, unless you plan on restoring it yourself, try and find one that is from the desert somewhere so you do not have to worry about rust.

Calling off the search!

The quest is over, bought a Charger today! Thanks for all your replies and input!
