Guys, I know this is probably common knoweledge amondt you all, but since I've only recently started my jorney to getting a 1970 RR, I am stuck on this issue: V-Code!

What does thaty refer to in the car's features? I've seen ad saying, "rare v-code roadrunner" and I look at the engine specs and don't know what is that that they're reffereing to.

Also, is there a good source of info that I could read before buying a 1970 Roadrunner? I don't want to jump into a project or a finished car, thinking that I scored, when if fact, I've been sold a bag of goods.

Any guidence would be greatly appreciacted. Thanks!

Admins: I hope I've posted in the coorect forum. If not could you move it and not delete it? Thanks again.

The 5th digit in the vehicles VIN is the engine code. In 1970 a "V" in that location indicates a 440 6bbl.
1st digit = car line. (R for Plymouth)
2nd digit = price level. (M for Road Runner)
3rd-4th digit = body style. (21=post, 23=hardtop, 27=convertible).
5th digit = engine
6th digit = year of manufacture. (0 = 1970).
7th digit = assy plant code.

You can find code info just by googling it......

Before buying take a lot of pics and pics of the fender tag. Also looking for hidden vins like on the package shelf, radiator support and trunk lip. Those should match the vin number.

I think there may be a hidden number on the firewall as well. I think there was one on my 70 Coronet R/T.

I say dont just read these boards here but buy a few books and magazine and keep reading. Take a look at Galen Goviers books great for numbers and decoding cars.

I also like the B body restoration guide.

Hey guys did all V code cars come with a dana rear end?

NO. I believe the automatic cars were 8 3/4 standard, Dana was an option. Dana was standard in 4 speed cars.

Sure wish I had mine back

Thanks to a house fire, and aging of old film, I have no good photos of the old girl. This photo was taken in 73-74. Had a 340 in it then.
