OK, so I am working on finishing my dash and got out my dash pad that I bought a while ago.

I am not happy.

It is like a wet noodle. Unlike the original dash pad, it has no metal core.

The problem is I don't have time to send my original dash out to get done. So a couple of questions:

1) Have any of you used these 'noodle' dash pads and had good success with them? They may be limp, but maybe they are OK once mounted? Any experiences you can share would be appreciated.

2) If there are problems due to them not having a metal core, maybe I could weld up some metal bar stock, bend it into the correct profile, dig out some material and glue it in? Not sure how hard that would be or if it would even help too much. Would this maybe work?

3) If neither 1 or 2 are good options, are there any choices to buy good reproduction dash pads rather than rebuilding my original?

I appreciate the help, as always!

I just rebuilt my dash pad for my 65 satellite see my post of progress of redoing it. my pad has a metal piece on the windshield side the bottom of the pad. it attaches with mldg. clips to the dash. if any questions e mail me

What's a noodle dash pad?

From the first post: "Unlike the original dash pad, it has no metal core", so it flops around. I am worried it will buckle and not sit right after a couple of times out in the sun...

dash pads without a metal core are notorious for fitting like garbage.
you could try to monkey with it like you say.
i would go find a metal core one myself and toss it in the trash
where it belongs.
the bea parts one is supposed to be ok from what i have read
i have no firsthand info about it.
you should start a
whats the best 69-70 dash pad thread in the 68-70 section
to find some good options.

Thanks flypaper. I ended up ordering a metal core dash pad from Classic Industries. I looked at a few sites and at least the pictures of them look the same, so I am guessing that there is one manufacturer of them.

We will see what it looks like when I get it. If it looks OK, I will use that one and then start fighting with Year One about the crappy one. I bought it probably January of this year, but just took it out of the box. They really shouldn't sell junk like that, at least not at the premium prices they charge...

Hawk, do you still have your old one ? If so, make sure you measure it up against the new one from Classic. I know there were a bunch of aftermarket ones out there that are too short.

Man all you guys can read minds? What year car is he working on? 70 or 71

lol
hawk is working on a 70 runner
he has a large thread here about it.
i know the shop its in and the owner of another 70 runner

I do, so I will compare it against the new one it comes in. That's what I did with the Year One dash pad, and the more I compared, the less happy I became. Thanks for the warning - I hope this is NOT one of the short ones...
