The odometer in my 65 Belvedere II has quit working. The speedometer works fine, it's just the odometer that won't work. Any suggestions other than changing the unit out?

honestly though... I'm not an expert but I just took apart and re-assembled my 64 instrument cluster to fix the clock and change out a few components, including the speedometer which was missing most of the needle for some reason.

there's probably some connecting component inside the speedo that commonly gives out on those. I'm sure it could carefully be replaced with the correct parts, but the unit was likely never "meant" to be taken apart so you may have some difficulties with disassembly. would it be worth it to fix instead of replace... probably not unless you wanted to keep the speedo and car together for "originality" purposes. or if the car and speedo are show quality it would be expensive and difficult to find such a nice replacement speedo. you would likely need to buy another speedo for parts anyway if you were to fix it.

just a thought

If you have a spare speedometer, makes it easier to dig into both, one to see what makes it work, two to see what might be broken on the one your using.
That's what I did on my 64. Picked the best of the two, re-set the odometer to 0 (sort of a pain), and it all worked. Some real small parts in there, some easily broken.
There's a gear/trip devise in there, that makes the odometer work.

I haven't tore into the dash yet, I wanted to get some ideas first. I have been looking on eBay for a replacement but am not having much luck. The car isn't original so theres no need to keep the same one in it. I do want to keep the original style. Thanks for the suggestions. Now I just have to figure out where to find another one.

I have been trying to find another one without much success. I will keep looking for a replacement.

my 64 speedo may function similar to yours. I took some pictures for reference incase it helps!

I had a similar speedo with the same issue. The odometer was sticking between 2 numbers, the plastic gear was still spinning but it would jump to the next tooth and keep going. I think it bent the end tab that holds the numbers too.
Pulled it out, took the numbers off, cleaned it up, no problemo.

I was thinking that the likely problem is the perpendicular smaller gear - I have seen them wear out and skip teeth and i have seen them pop out of their holder
