Has anyone ever rebuilt the remote style side view mirror for a 68 charger? Can I reuse or do I need to replace the cable wire that moves the glass.

What's the matter?

Loose?

I've put some washers (3) between the spring points to stiffen them up.

Might have to try several thicknesses and you gotta get just the right diameter and center hole.

Keep test fitting and when it's right it will firm up as soon as the last one gets wedged in.

I need to get it about the get the mirror chromed. After talking with some people I was told uncramp the end by the adjuster in the door with out breaking the crimp section. Lets see how that goes :/

Re-chroming might cost you as much a a repro mirror.

in the long run far cheaper to get it rechromed. I have the time till I need it so ill rechrome my nice oem one. Rather than buy a possibly crappy repop now and get my oem one redone down the road. I really want to stay as oem as I can when it come to chrome. Seems the repop chrome doesn't hold up to time and wear in some cases.

Agree.

Do you have a price for the chroming?

I want to say it was 250, this mopar cast pot metal stuff its a giant strain on the wallet

Wow.

Doesn't really surprise me though.

Thanks for the warning.

I've had good luck picking up reasonably grade A minus and B plus mirrors at swap meets because folks are buying the repros.

All of my cars are or will be "drivers", so "nice driver" quality is what I'm after.

...and as for your original question- yes they are quite the bitch to take apart.
I've not heard of any secrets, and haven't been too successful myself.
Hopefully someone else will chime in.
This is definitely the forum for that!!

I got the wires off the knob good thing I have a nicer extra one, but I was able to get it about nicely. My mirror was non-pitted but the peppering and in need of new mirror glass.

Not to mention the re-pop stuff is really letting me down, DO NOT get the repop center console stuff they glue the center pieces in and the glue seeps out and is seen.
