Help....I'm almost at wits end with this oil leak. Here's what I've got....64 Belvedere 73 RB block with Indy EZ-1 Max Wedge heads, cross ram intake basically a Max wedge clone. My problem is that I've got a pretty good oil leak between the front corners of the block and the oil pan. There's also a windage tray in the mix.....there seems to be a couple of "holes" right in the front corners. I've tried RTV a couple of times with no luck. It just seems like there should be metal from the block there for the pan to seal against but there isn't....I've included a picture. Thanks,
Mike

RHW, you may have to elongate the holes for the line-up pins on the timing chain cover, just enough to let it sit down a few thousands more. I put mine together on a stand and put the pan on leaving the timing cover loose until the pan is seated. from the looks of the leak on the front, it looks like the timing chain cover is not down far enough to seal against the front of the pan. on the back it is hard to describe what I do but they don't leak(stock mopar) on the back it is imperitive that the surfaces be DRY!! I use ether to clean and dry the back of the block, and the seal, leave it loose and squeeze black RTV down the sides of the seal, insert the little cardboard thingies down the sides all the way, then tighten the seal to spec, fill the bolt hole at the head level full, finger a fillet of rtv on the sides on both sides, put a thin layer of rtv on the seal and stick the gasket on the block, allow to dry! grease the gasket, lay the windage tray, and in stall the other gasket on the pan, let dry, grease and install !! should not leak, mine doesn't, good luck with yours, Dave.

Are you sure it isn't leaking from the timing cover right above the pan? If the lower bolts are 1" long or longer they can bottom in the holes in the block. They will look like they've tightened the cover but have not. Cap off the valve cover breather holes and apply low pressure air (5psi) through the PCV hose to the valve cover. This small amount of pressure will force the oil out at the exact leak location.
