I just picked up a 1970 440 HP block that says paul rossi-4 in very old paint on the front of the block. does this mean anything? the guy said that rossi was some racer in the 70's.any info would be great.
ok I did some more searching and found that this block was part of a buyout when Rossi quit drag racing and went to cart racing. All the back-up engines and blocks, heads, cams intake's ect were purchased by Rob Roth of Roth Racing, this is the last of the blocks from that purchase, all the others were sold off years ago. it has a fresh(30years ago) .030 bore.
That's one lucky find. I'm not sure what mods were allowed in SS back then but Has the block had the oil mods done or are the lifter bores bushed?
Great find!
this seems to be a block that was "in process" all of the oil passages are de-burred and it has been hot tanked and bored but no lifter bore work. I have talked to Kenny Newsome who worked for Roth sometime back and he said the block was prepped for further machining. it seems that Rossi Chose only certain blocks to work with and then they would go through several "stages" so this on is in the early stages. once completed they would be completely de-burred inside and out, coated in glyptal paint and had the lifter bored busched. so I am happy with my 100.00 find.
